Frequently Asked Questions

You must be at least 18 years old to get a tattoo in our studio. There is no parental consent in New York. Even if there was, we would never tattoo a minor.

We highly recommend making an appointment to ensure you get the time slot that works best for you. However, we do accept walk-ins depending on availability. It’s always best to call ahead or check our social media for current availability. Reach out directly to our  artists or check their socials as well for further updates.

You can book an appointment by visiting our website’s booking page or
stopping by the studio in person on the days we are open to the public. Each
artist is a separate business within Acala Tattoo Collective. Reaching out to your
artist of choice directly is the best way to book. We require a deposit to secure
your spot. The deposit price varies based on the artist.

Our artists can be booked weeks to months in advance depending on their
schedule and popularity. It’s a good idea to book as soon as possible, especially
for larger pieces.

The length of time depends on the size, complexity, and placement of the
design. Smaller tattoos may take 30 minutes to 2 hours, while larger, more
intricate pieces could take several hours or multiple sessions, potentially years
to finish.

Pricing and Payment

The price of your tattoo will vary based on factors such as size, detail, placement, and the artist’s hourly rate. We offer a consultation where we can give you a reasonably accurate estimate before starting. No estimate is perfect.

Please give your artist a budget so they can design the tattoo in order to fit it.

We do not typically offer discount packages, as each tattoo is unique. However, we occasionally run special promotions or events. Keep an eye on our social media for updates.

Although each artist will have their own standards for payment, most of us accept cash, credit, apple pay and a few other digital forms. Make sure to ask your artist before starting your tattoo to avoid confusion.

We do not accept personal checks.

Yes, a deposit is required to confirm your appointment. The deposit goes toward the cost of your tattoo and is non-refundable. If you need to reschedule, we require at least 48 hours’ notice.

The deposit price is set by your individual artist.

Consultation and Design

The artists of Acala Tattoo Collective are specialized artists who do custom work. We are happy to take your ideas and references, and customize them into a unique design, tailored to fit you. During your consultation, our artists will work with you to refine and personalize your design. Sometimes you have that sentimental piece that needs to be just what it is. We’re happy to do that for you with the expertise and  precision that we would treat a bodysuit.

Bring any reference images, ideas, or sketches you have in mind. Be prepared to discuss size, placement, and the overall feel you want for your tattoo. If you’re unsure, our artists can help guide you through the process. Dress appropriately so that the artist can access the area that will be tattooed. We have private spaces if the tattoo is going to be on a more personal part of the body. We recommend having someone you trust take pictures of the area if it will make you feel more comfortable.

Your comfort and safety come first.

Yes, but we recommend making design changes as early as possible. Significant changes may require a new consultation to ensure we have enough time to finalize your design. It may  require a new deposit if the artist has already drawn extensively for the design.

Tattoo Process

Pain tolerance varies from person to person. While tattoos are generally  uncomfortable, many describe the sensation as a mild  burning or scratching feeling. The pain also depends on the area of the body being tattooed. Although everyone is different and it’s hard to say what you’re experience is going to be, ask your artist for insight into what you might expect.

– Eat a full meal before your appointment to keep your energy up.

– Avoid alcohol or drugs before your session as they can thin your blood and affect the healing process.

– Get a good night’s sleep the night before.

– Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed.

Do not wear clothes that will regret getting dirty. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy access to the area being tattooed. For example, if you’re getting a tattoo on your arm, wear a short-sleeved shirt. For those getting full leg sleeves, Back-pieces, and bodysuits I strongly recommend bringing a large blanket that you don’t mind getting dirty. This will serve to allow access to the needed body parts while allowing coverage, warmth and comfort throughout the process. I promise this will set you up for success. A tattoo is traumatic on your body. Warmth and the feeling of security will go a long way.

You will need a valid ID to confirm your age. Bring your ideas and any reference images for the design.  Although we have water and snacks available at all times. If you have favorites it’s a  great time for that cheat day. This might be the one time that high sugar and carb heavy drinks and snacks will have a positive impact. Bring headphones, a book, iPad or anything that will distract you. (As long as you stay still!) Although we have heated  beds, a blanket never hurts. Some people like to bring and wear sunglasses because we require a whole lot of light to apply the tattoo and sometimes it’s a bit much on the client.
