This month at Acala Tattoo Collective, we are highlighting the work of our featured artist, Max Shoberg, whose dedication to their craft helps define our studio. Clients seeking custom tattoos and a relaxed yet memorable experience in a boutique tattoo shop travel from across the Hudson Valley, including Poughkeepsie, Beacon, Newburgh and beyond, to our Wappingers Falls, NY studio.
Our artists specialize in a wide range of custom work, from intricate sacred geometry and extensive full Japanese bodysuits to detailed blackwork tattoos and cosmetic services. They approach each project with a commitment to collaboration, ensuring every client receives a unique and lasting piece of body art. We invite you to explore the portfolio of this month’s featured artist to see their work firsthand.
About The Artist
Max has been tattooing professionally since 2009, bringing a lifelong dedication to art into every design. A native New Yorker, he was born in Manhattan and studied at the Arts Students League of New York and the School of Visual Arts before pursuing tattooing full time. In 2008, he began his apprenticeship just outside of the city and soon returned to Manhattan, working in midtown from 2010–2018.

In 2018, Maxwell relocated with his family to the Hudson Valley, where he continues his craft as a resident artist at Acala Tattoo Collective. His portfolio reflects a wide range of styles—including large-scale illustrative work, black and grey, realism, Japanese, bio-mechanical, and color. With each project, he focuses on bringing a client’s vision to life, aligning their ideas with his years of training and experience.
Maxwell’s work reflects both his technical skill and his deep passion for the art of tattooing. For him, tattooing is not only a career but a calling—an art form that thrives on both individual expression and the shared energy of the studio environment.
